Avoid using any foods that are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mybeevet.com\/blog\/pet-ate-something\/\">toxic<\/a> to pets, such as chocolate, raisins, grapes, coffee, alcohol, and anything sweetened with Xylitol.<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mybeevet.com\/blog\/exercise-for-pets\/\">pet obesity<\/a> on the rise, adding extra calories to your pet\u2019s diet can be an issue. Our summer pet treat ideas are healthy, but care should be taken not to increase your pet\u2019s daily caloric intake too much. Treats of any kind should also never replace your pet\u2019s regular food.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>What Can You Freeze for Your Pet?<\/h3>\n<p>You probably already have everything you need in your fridge or pantry to make a batch of delicious and nutritious summer pet treats:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Veggies<\/strong> \u2013 Lightly steamed veggies, such as green beans, squash, and sweet potato are healthy and tasty.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fruit<\/strong> \u2013 Peeled and deseeded fruits, like apples, bananas, kiwi, melon, and berries, are a low-cal way to add some sweetness to a pet\u2019s life (skip the citrus, as it can irritate a pet\u2019s GI tract).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Broth<\/strong> \u2013 Low sodium chicken or beef broth can be frozen plain or with added bits of vegetables or meat for a tasty pupsicle (or add tuna for a catsicle).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yogurt<\/strong> \u2013 Plain yogurt makes a wonderful base ingredient. Mix it with chunks of banana and a scoop of peanut butter and freeze for a delicious pet-friendly \u201cice cream\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Baby food<\/strong> \u2013 Plain fruit, vegetable, or meat blends make great additions to any summer pet treat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ice cube trays, popsicle molds, or single-serve yogurt containers all work for freezing purees and liquids. Dollops of thicker mixtures of fruits, vegetables, or cubed chicken or beef can be frozen on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
